Rubber Dam – Definition
In dentistry, a Rubber Dam is a soft latex sheet used to isolate one or more teeth from contamination by oral fluids (saliva), which contain bacteria, and to keep materials from falling to the back of the throat. It is most commonly used in root canal procedures. A rubber dam creates a dry, working area for dentists to work in. This helps prevent further bacteria from saliva entering affected teeth as well as possible damage to the tongue and other oral structures.
