Novocain – Definition
In dentistry, Novocain refers to the older brand name for a local anesthetic, currently replaced by safer, more effective agents. A local anesthetic is the injection given in the mouth to numb the areas where a tooth or area needs a dental procedure. It is quick acting, requiring only 3-5 minutes following injection for its numbing effects to set in. Usually, one shot of Novocain should be enough to numb the patient for the duration of any dental procedure.
