Molars – Definition
In dentistry, Molars are the broad, multicusped (ridge) back teeth, used for chewing and grinding food and are considered the largest teeth in the mouth. In adults, there are a total of twelve molars (including the four wisdom teeth, three on each side of the upper and lower jaws. Molars having large crowns and broad chewing surfaces. Molars can generally be placed in two main categories: the Maxillary (Upper jaw) molars and the Mandibular (lower jaw) molars and three sub categories, first, second and third molars, depending on their location in the mouth.
