Laminating – Definition
In dentistry, Laminating refers to applying a thin veneer (a thin layer of a material fixed to the surface of another material) of porcelain, composite resin, or preformed plastic to the tooth. The term laminate comes from the Latin word lamina, which means thin plate or scale. Lamination is a uniting of superposed layers of material by an adhesive or other means. Porcelain veneers are fabricated in the dental laboratory by similar layering techniques. They are the most common procedures offered by cosmetic dentists as they display similar physical properties as natural enamel.
