Hypersensitivity – Definition
In dentistry, Hypersensitivity is a sharp, sudden painful reaction in teeth when exposed to hot, cold, sweet, sour, salty, chemical, or mechanical stimuli. This condition may disturb the patient during eating, drinking, brushing and sometimes even breathing. Dental hypersensitivity is a fairly common condition characterized by short, sharp pains arising from stimulation of exposed dentin. A comprehensive assessment is essential as is appropriate treatment to decrease the dental sensitivity and relieve patient discomfort.
