Endodontist – Definition
In dentistry, an Endodontist, from the Greek endo (inside) and odons (tooth), is a dentist who specializes in treating disease and injuries of the pulp and the associated tissues surrounding the root of a tooth. When the pulp is diseased or injured and unable to repair itself, it becomes infected. Endodontic treatment is the removal of the diseased pulp tissue, which will enable the body’s defense system to repair the damage caused by the infection. Qualification as an Endodontist typically requires an additional 2-3 years of training following dental school.
