Dentin – Definition
In dentistry, the Dentin is the hard portion of the tooth surrounding the pulp, covered by enamel on the crown and cementum on the root. It is actually harder and denser than bone, but softer than enamel. Dentin is the most abundant dental tissue that determines the size and shape of teeth. Dentin is much more susceptible to decay, abrasion from tooth brushing, and is responsible for many sensitivity reactions when it is exposed in the mouth.
