Decay – Definition
In dentistry, tooth Decay decay refers to an area of a tooth where a lot of the tooth’s natural mineral content has been dissolved away and as a result a defect such as a hole or a cavity has developed. Decay can occur when your teeth are frequently exposed to foods containing carbohydrates, such as starches and sugars like candy, cake, soda pop, and even sticky fruits. An area of decay may take many years or as short as a few months to dissolve the enamel of the tooth. If you have a cavity, this outer layer has collapsed producing a hole that on its own cannot repair itself.
