Abrasion – Definition
In dentistry, Abrasion is the wearing away of the tooth substance caused by forces other than chewing, such as holding objects between the teeth or improper brushing. The teeth most commonly affected are premolars and canines. In order to prevent tooth abrasion, you should seek your Dentist’s opinion on how to properly brush. Choosing the right toothpaste is also important as some toothpastes are highly abrasive on tooth enamel. Again, your Dentist will be able to give you advice on the different types of toothpastes available. Chewing on nails and hard objects, such as pencils is not advisable, as is using your teeth as a cutting tool. If you are experiencing any symptom defined by a term, you should seek the advice of your dental practitioner.
